Company Description

The DLR Institute of Composite Structures and Adaptive Systems has strong expertise in the processing of composites. In its strategic field Additive Composite Structures (AddCompS™) it is investigated how additive manufacturing solutions can create an added value in the design and production of composite components. Especially 3D-printing of continuous fiber-reinforced structures appears as a promising approach. A new technique is developed, to achieve high impregnation quality within small construction space. Possible application scenarios range from the production of thermoplastic CFRP filaments and tapes to the integration in a 3D-printing head. Supplementary the DLR Innovation Lab Empower Additive Extrusion is founded. It strengthens the accessibility to additive extrusion for industry, by establishing common standardization and qualification measures in a global partner network.
